Yesterday, after months of heated rhetoric and debate about Arizona's controversial new immigration law, federal Judge Susan Bolton blocked most of SB 1070 from taking effect. The move served as an important affirmation of the federal government's responsibility in enforcing our nation's immigration laws. But regardless of what happened with this case, this administration will continue to enforce the law, just as we have been doing for the past 18 months: with unprecedented resources and a clear commitment to serious, smart and effective enforcement that has yielded important results.

President Obama, Democratic leaders and Republican Sen. Lindsay Graham met Thursday at the White House to discuss immigration reform and Iowa Rep. Steve King weighed in:

“Americans have rejected amnesty in 2006 and 2007, and they will reject it again if the Obama Administration tries to force it upon them. It is wrong to reward immigration law breakers.

“If President Obama is serious about addressing the immigration issue, he needs to focus on the millions of Americans who are out of work or worried about losing their jobs. This is the time for the Obama Administration to accelerate enforcement of immigration laws to make room for unemployed Americans, not grant amnesty. We must not reward lawbreakers at the expense of hard-working and smart-working Americans.”
